Home Entertainment Movies & TV The Great Harry Potter Debate
|
The Great Harry Potter Debate First let me make this statement: I am a Harry Potter fan. I mean I didn’t dress up as Dumbledore and wait in line for the midnight showing, but I do make a point to see each film within a week of release. Unlike any other movie series, Harry Potter always raises the most debate. First there is the debate on whether or not the movies and books are suitable for children, are they evil or are they innocent fun. Then there is the debate between Harry Potter fans on which is better: the books or the movies. And lastly there is the debate on which movie is the best. A friend of mine argued with me yesterday because I gave the latest Harry Potter movie, The Order of the Phoenix, an A rating. She was sure that the movie only deserved a B at most. So why all the debate? Easy answer here: Because it’s good. No one would discuss the moral dilemmas of ‘Dude, Where’s Your Car’. Why? Because it sucked. But Harry Potter is well written (in book or movie form) and we are now personally vested in the characters. I don’t know if ‘The Order of the Phoenix’ is the best Harry Potter movie but it sure felt like it. Maybe it’s because we feel as though we know Harry now, we care about his life and the lives of his friends. I love that this new movie has introduced new characters and that it’s made existing ones more important. It’s a movie series where good is good and bad is bad, and all the characters are forced to decide on which side they will fight. Debate or not I’m sure everyone will agree that the acting is amazing and the effects are like none you’ve seen before. I encourage everyone to see this latest installment, you won’t be disappointed. |
