Misty's Review
 Ball's of Fury
Okay, I admit it – I went to see ‘Balls Of Fury’. I’m embarrassed just to write it down. Please, don’t shun me just yet – I have a really good excuse. It was my husband’s birthday and he got to choose the movie. A very rare occurrence, but it does happen. So it was either this or ‘Superbad’. He ended up choosing the one that started soonest – lucky me.
The plot is pretty simple here: washed up professional ping-pong player is recruited by FBI to infiltrate the dark underworld side of ping-pong. (Wait, that doesn’t seem too simple, does it?) Our underdog ping-pong player is Randy Daytona, aka Dan Fogler. And actually, he’s the high-light of the movie. He really grows on you. I think it’s because we all have that one friend who’s too old for cotton shorts and Def Leppard tee shirts, but we hang with them anyways. I was kind of looking forward to seeing Christopher Walken too. The previews looked funny and I thought there’s no way he’d do a dumb movie. Boy was I wrong! I mean, he did provide some pretty funny moments, but the ‘dumbness’ far outweighed the funny here.
You’ll be surprised to hear I’m giving this movie a D grade. Cause let’s face it – I like just about everything. But even I found myself sitting in the theater thinking, “Why am I sitting through this?”
Take my advice, if you’re in the mood for comedy this week go see ‘Superbad’. And a year from now when ‘Balls Of Fury’ is in the discounted gallery section of the movie rental store and there’s NOTHING else available, rent it. |
