The Brave One Jodie Foster
Rated R Strong Violence, language, some sexuality MISTY'S GRADE: A
The Brave One I’m sure everyone has that “I hope this movie doesn’t suck” fear when they walk into a theater to see a new release. I know I do. But I never have that feeling when I see a Jodi Foster movie. I know that no matter the type of movie it is, it will be well written and beautifully acted. From drama to comedy, if it’s not an ‘A’ movie then she doesn’t do it. And ‘The Brave One’ is yet again an ‘A’ Jodie Foster movie. Jodie Foster stars as Erica Bain, a New York City talk radio personality, whose world is destroyed when she and her fiancé are violently attacked. Her fiancé is killed and Erica is thrown into a world surrounded by fear. Her beloved city is now a stranger and she no longer feels safe. When asked how someone comes back from something like that she answers, “You become someone different.” And that’s exactly what happens. She becomes a vigilante, taking the law into her own hands. This movie follows a person’s journey into darkness. It makes us ask ourselves how far would we go for justice. Where is that line between right and wrong? I really enjoyed this movie. The performances by Jodie Foster and Terrance Howard were amazing and they had perfect on screen chemistry. As much as I liked the movie I did find one thing negative to comment on. There is a love scene in the movie that, I believe, is totally unnecessary. Don’t get me wrong, if it’s needed in the plot, I’m fine with it. But this really felt ‘thrown in’. The movie would have been just as brilliant without it. A word of warning though: there is quite a bit of violence and obscene language. So please don’t take the kiddies to this flick. All in all I’m happy to give this movie an A grade. |
