When You are Stranded in a Blizzard
it is too Late to Pack a Bag

With night coming early and temperatures dropping, winter is not a good time to have vehicle trouble. Prepare yourself now before the snow flies!

Check all fluid levels and fill as needed.
Change the oil.
Check the anti-freeze.
Fill wiper fluid reservoir with de-icing solution.
Check the battery.
Check the tread and air pressure of tires.
Inspect the brakes.
Install good windshield wiper blades.
Check headlights and signal lights.
Check belts and hoses, replace as necessary.
Ensure heater and defroster are in good working condition.

Always keep a cold weather kit in your vehicle for emergencies.  These are the minimum you should have with you should you be stranded in an ice storm or blizzard!
TO GET GOING AGAIN:
Kitty Litter or some carpet for traction
Jumper cables
Shovel
Snow Chains
Ice Scraper
Towing Cables

IF YOU ARE STUCK AND HAVE TO WAIT FOR HELP
Blanket (or some emergency blankets)
First Aid Kit
Candles
Flashlight
Gloves (a couple of pairs)
Socks (a couple of pairs)
Snow boots or waders
Cell Phone
Non perishable food items, and candy for energy (you can melt snow for water)

Remember if you run off the road or are otherwise stranded in snow or ice it may be hours or days before someone can get to you.  Prepare accordingly.  Extra blankets and supplies are needed as well if you travel with children or others on a regular basis.

Also keep your gas tank full at all times.  In case you need to run your vehicle for heat you will have plenty of gas.  If you do need the heat run it for 1/2 hour intervals and be sure you are not in a closed in area-carbon monoxide inhalation is possible.
